Gliding Barnacles: Day Shift

The concert´s change of venue from Figueira da Foz to Cabedelo beach just made us surf more. Day and night, partying until 3/4/5 am. Most of the guys crashed here, in the vans,  tents, hangar, etc. Barbecues; small market including Gato Heroi´s shapes, shorts; Surf Brewing beers...  At taste of paradise. Or hell. This year´s … Continue reading Gliding Barnacles: Day Shift

Gliding Barnacles: The Night Shift

On the road to somewhere was this year´s Gliding Barnacles festival tag line. Got there a little later than usual, but just in time for the night shift. This edition had night surfing going on, one of the many creative ideas that architect Miguel Figueira puts down. I could hear Amy Hewton´s screams in the … Continue reading Gliding Barnacles: The Night Shift

It´s A Narrow Open Road: Part IV

Figueira da Foz is where I was born and my dearest place. Think I´ll never forget it´s long waves peeling off in the distance, one after the other as I walked back home from school at Rua do Pinhal. I love Algarve, where I live, the short winters and beautiful weather make me feel like … Continue reading It´s A Narrow Open Road: Part IV

Buy The Ticket Take The Ride

Lagos, Algarve, a surf city that (almost) has no surf: Party, party, party, repeat. Take a ride to the nearby west coast and have a surf. Get smashed later that day and tell everybody how sick Cordoama was. Smell the absinthe. Get a tatoo saying Cheiras a Lagos. Dunno if it´s because this is the … Continue reading Buy The Ticket Take The Ride

Duct Tape Invitational: Portugal

Got a ride to Ericeira for this. Thing. Legend Joel Tudor likes weed, I heard. I also heard this was about style. Well, if I wasn´t there I wouldn´t believe it: the master drinking cheap beer... Waffles and hotdogs as food!? No wonder the winners were "not so stylish" competitive surfers. Thank God awesome surfers … Continue reading Duct Tape Invitational: Portugal

Getting The Shot

Me and Sebastian aka Salty frames planned to meet early at Cordoama´s Miradouro. From the top of this cliff we waited for the offshore to kick in. The swell was bigger than expected and breaking everywhere. It´s weird to look at waves from this height, but the spit coming out from a couple of gems … Continue reading Getting The Shot

Drive Thru: Chouriço Overdose

Life is short. Thought it was time to go for a spin. The swell looked massive, maybe too big for Ericeira and too west for Nazare, but decided to roll the dice with my friend Sebastian Salty Frames anyway. Stoped in Alentejo to have a cofee and buy some bread and local chouriço. Stayed with … Continue reading Drive Thru: Chouriço Overdose
